In the face of complex and changing internal and external environment, China's wool textile industry is operating under pressure, and the fundamentals are gradually improving. At the same time, echoing the "double carbon" goal, the industry is starting to explore a low-carbon sustainable development path.

At the "low-carbon Sustainable Development Forum of Wool Products" held in Shanghai on December 29, the data provided by the China Wool Textile Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as the "China Wool Textile Association") show that in the context of domestic demand still to be further boosted and international demand is still sluggish, the national wool textile industry will operate under pressure in 2023, and the quality and efficiency level will be stable, showing resilience and vitality.

In the first 10 months of this year, the operating income of the national standard wool textile enterprises reached 119 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3%, and the total profit was 4.16 billion yuan, an increase of 15.5%; The average profit margin of wool textile and dyeing and finishing enterprises was 3.5%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points. The enterprise yarn production of 103,000 tons, an increase of 2.1%. During the same period, the output of wool fabric was 300 million meters, a 6.5% drop year-on-year, and the export amount of wool spinning raw materials and products declined slightly year-on-year.

Liu Jiaqiang, president of the China Wool Association, said that while the fundamentals are gradually improving, the wool textile industry is responding to the requirements of the "double carbon" strategy, actively promoting the process of sustainable development, and accelerating the adjustment of the industrial chain layout. Following the research on carbon emissions in the wool textile industry in 2022, in 2023, the Association established the "Green and Low-carbon Alliance for the wool textile Industry", organized the "China Cashmere Industry High-quality Development Summit Forum", collected and issued the "Green and low-carbon technology for the wool textile Industry in 2023" and other work has been widely recognized by the industry.

The head enterprise has become a leading force in exploring the path of sustainable development in the wool textile industry. Chen Zhongwei, chairman and general manager of Hengyuanxiang Group, revealed that the group's factories have begun a low-carbon intelligent transformation. Among them, the first home textile factory located in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, land intensification, harmless raw materials, clean production, waste resources, and low energy carbonization have reached the average level of the industry, and the carbon emission per unit product is better than the top 5% of the industry. At present, the relevant green certification is being implemented in Hengyuanxiang's factories.

Hengyuanxiang also runs the concept of green and low-carbon development through the development process of wool products, including insisting on the use of wool, a 100% biodegradable natural fiber, and overcoming key technologies such as ultrafine wool spinning and weaving, natural plant dyeing, and wool waste recycling. Heng Yuanxiang also jointly carried out project research with the China Wool Association, including undertaking the research of "the carbon footprint of a typical woolen knitwear product", and deeply participated in the industry emission reduction research and the construction of relevant standard rules system.

At the forum, Chen Yan, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Textile and Garment Engineering at Soochow University, suggested that enterprises in the wool textile industry promote the sustainable development of brand products by establishing "ecological priority goals". Chen Yan said that the ecological priority goal should run through all aspects of raw material selection, product development, production and processing and market operation. The use of natural fibers, the optimization of fiber mix, the improvement of design efficiency, the adoption of low-carbon process technology, the use of clean energy and environmental protection additives, the realization of digital management, the use of intelligent order management and logistics management, the establishment of online/offline collaboration mechanisms are all effective means to achieve ecological priority.
