These aerogels not only have excellent mechanical properties that meet the elastic and comfort needs of fabrics, but they are also self-cleaning, waterproof, breathable and flame retardant for use in extreme environments. In addition, these aerogel felt garments exhibited insulation properties close to dry air and were only one-third as thick as down garments with similar insulation properties.
